ten years since 1790, the United States Federal Government has done an
official count of the residents of the country. From 1790-1840 the census
records gave only the
name of the head of household and the various statistics about the home.
It was not until 1850 that each person living in the home was listed by
name. Most of the 1890 census was destroyed in a fire.
Census data must be at least 70 years old to be released.
