Keefer-Olmstead Cemetery

Established Circa 1857

     The rationale for this date has been researched as much as possible and we arrived at the circa 1857 from the following documentation. We do not know for certain the exact year, thus the circa.

(1) Abraham Keefer recorded the deed for his property in the Ionia Court House in 1848.

(2) Mont Vernon Olmstead recorded the deed for his property in the Ionia Court House in 1851.

(3) We know that each property owner donated one (1) acre each to be used as a cemetery.

(4) From the original plot map of the Olmstead portion of the cemetery the first burial was for Abigail Olmstead, 1821-1857.

(5) The head stone for Abigail Olmstead has been located in the cemetery.

     A copy of this rational will be given to the secretary to retain with the cemetery records along with copies of the recorded deeds and if possible the plot map. Research was concluded and approved in June of 2003.
