Lake Odessa--Andrus W. Daniels, 92, died at 5 a.m. Wednesday at the home of his son, Oren, on route two, Lake Odessa, after a lengthy illness.
He was born November 9, 1870 in Sebewa township, the son of Oren and Sarah Kenney Daniels, and died in the house in which he was born.
His wife Anna, died in 1949.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Earl and Mrs. Uceba Thomas of Lake Odessa, and Mrs. Bernice Gunn of Sunfield; one son, Oren Daniels; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Carrie Kimble of Grand Rapids.
Funeral service will be at Pickens funeral chapel Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with burial at Sebewa cemetery. The Rev. Robert Wessell will officiate.

Mrs. Anna Daniels Dies After Long Illness
Mrs. Anna W. Daniels, 76, wife of Andrus W. Daniels of Sebewa, passed away Sunday night at her home from a second stroke of paralysis suffered Friday morning. She had been in ill health a long time.
She was born in Sebewa township and they had resided on their farm the former Chris Yager farm, five and a half miles east of town since their marriage 35 years ago. She was a member of the Sebewa Baptist church.
Surviving besides the husband are three daughters, Mrs. Avard Earl, Mrs. Alton Gunn and Mrs. Bernard Thomas; one son Oren; a sister, Mrs. Eunice Peacock; all of Lake Odessa and Sebewa; one brother, Herman Lindley of Grand Rapids; 13 grand children and 8 great grand children.
Mrs. Daniels reposed at the Pickens funeral chapel until taken to the Sebewa Baptist church where services were held Wednesday at 2 with burial in the Baptist cemetery. Rev. Frank Moxon of Gaines officiated.

Russell Davis, 65, of Ionia passed away Tues., April 2, 2002 at Ionia County Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 8, 1936 in White Cloud, the son of Earl H. and Marian L. (Eveland) Davis.
He would go on to marry Nancy Bennett Sept. 15, 1989 in Ionia. Mr. Davis was a past police officer at the Eggleston Township Police Department in Muskegon. He later went on to work as a corrections officer at the Riverside Corrections Facility in Ionia from 1977 to 1991.
He was a member of the Ionia Moose Lodge. He loved to golf, bowl, write poetry and play bingo and play with his puppies.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Nancy; sons, Donald Davis of Florida, David (Rose) Davis of Wisconsin, Daniel Davis of Ionia, Robert (Deb) Helmes of Ionia and Bruce (Terrsa) Helmes of Ionia; daughters, Debbie Davis of Ionia and Diana (Todd) Owen of Indiana; brothers, Robert Davis and Richard (Fran) Davis both of Muskegon; half brother, Harry Lee Davis of Muskegon; sisters, Lorraine Brunner of Minnesota and Ruby Gilewski of Grand Rapids; half-sister, Elaine Anderson of Muskegon; grand-children, Terra Resterhouse, Andrea (Ryan) Adgate, Jeff Owen, Michael Davis, Angelika Davis, Loren Hill, Steven Davis, Robert Helmes Jr., Misty Helmes, Stephanie (Ray) Granger and Al Helmes; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ray Davis; and one sister, Rosemary Campbell.
Funeral and committal services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to Ionia County Memorial Hospital in care of the funeral home.

"Orren W. Daniels, old resident of Sebewa passes. Served through three years of Civil War. Lived in Sebewa since 1865. Leaves many friends. Orren W. Daniels was born near Albany, NY, Sept. 16, 1838, and died at his home in Sebewa April 17, 1921, at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 1 day.
Early in his life he came to Michigan with his parents, first living at Lowell. His education was obtained in the district schools and a year in the Michighan Agricultural College.
In the early part of the Civil War he resonded to his country's call by enlisting (in the Union Army) on October 9, 1862 in Company E. Sixth Michigan Cavalry. He was wounded in the Battle of the Wilderness May 6, 1864. When he was able to leave the hospital he obtained a furlough to return home, during which time he was married to Sarah Kinney of Portland, who preceded him in death nearly 12 years ago. At the expiration of his furlough, he returned to the service. After the Battle of Appomattox, his regiment, under General Custer, was detailed to the west to assist in quelling indian disturbances for the summer. He was honorably dischared at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Nov. 24 18(?) (perhaps 67)."
When he returned home, he, with his wife, settled at once in a new farm in the woods in Sebewa, where he has since continuously resided, being one of the early pioneers of this section.
He was the father of nine children, one dying in infancy, 8 living in the surrounding community, namely Cora E. at home, Sylvester C., Andrus W., Jay B., Tillotson O. Carrie B. Kimble, Ada S. Ingall and Lottie M. Kauffman. He also leaves five sisters, Mrs. Jane ****** of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Francis Lyon of Barryton, Mrs. Charlotte Steward of Lake Odessa, Mrs. Mary Drake of Sunfield and Mrs. Gracia Aldrich of Grand Rapids, besides 19 grandchildren and many friends.
He was converted to the Christian faith under the ministry of Rev. M. Donald, pastor of the Sebewa with which he immediately affiliated and has always been actively connected. In November he had a touch of pneumonia developing into a general breakdown in health, causing his death."

Portland – Glenn W. Davis, 74, 233 Water St., Portland, died Saturday at a Lansing Hospital.
Davis was born April 16, 1905 in Cadillac, the son of George and Mabel Metcalf Davis.
Surviving are his wife, Josephine; two sons, Rick, of Clarksville, and John of Muir, one daughter, Julia Cahoon, of Lyons, one sister, Dorothy Moore of St. Clair Shores, 15 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Neller Funeral Home in Portland with the Rev. Norman Moncomoyer officiating.
Masonic services will be conducted Monday at 8 p.m. by the Portland Lodge S and AM No. 31 at the Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Portland Cemetery.

Mrs. Mabel (Dillenbeck) Dake, 70, of 423 West Washington street died Tuesday evening in the Grand Valley Nursing home, where she had been a patient for three days.
She was born January 13, 1888 in Ionia, the daughter of Abner and Sarah Jane (Kenny) Dillenbeck. In 1933 she was married to Wesley Dake, and they lived on a farm in Easton until his death in 1943. Mrs. Dake then sold the farm and moved to Ionia.
She was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul church, the Rosary Society and the Daughters of Isabella.
Surviving is one brother, Leo Dillenbeck of Ionia.
Requiem high mass will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul church. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Rosary will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Stone-Kauffman funeral home.

Louisa Jane House, daughter of Anthony and Mary Ann House, was born in Madison County, New York in 1842. She came to the township of Keene, Ionia County, Mich., during her tenth year. She was married to William H. Dawson of Keene, Nov. 22, 1858. To them ten children were born all of whom are living except one. Besides her children, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. John Sherman of Belding, and Mrs. Hendricks of Chicago, Ill, and one brother, Charles House of Sparta, Mich.

Heman Dawson, 83, died at his home in Saranac Wednesday evening after suffering a severe stroke Sunday afternoon. He was born in Ionia County, December 28, 1853 and had lived in the county all his life. He was a mason by trade, and was active up until his poor health several years ago. He was a member of the Woodland lodge and of the Oddfellows.
He is survived by one son, William of Grand Rapids, and one daughter, Mrs. Lena Kernan of Ionia; ten grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Kate Burch of Lyons, Mrs. Mable Rouse of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Jennie Tasker of Sioux City, Iowa, and three brothers, Charles of Grand Rapids, John of Lowell, and Henry of Lansing.
Prayer service will be held Saturday afternoon, August 8 from the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Florence Dawson, at 2 o'clock and from the Congregational church, at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. John Gehrig officiating. Burial will be at the Saranac cemetery.

Mrs. Heman Dawson, 60 died very unexpectedly at her home in Saranac Thursday afternoon after an illness of a week of acute indigestion. The funeral services will be held at the house Sunday afternoon at 1:30 and at the Methodist Episcopal church at 2 o'clock. The interment will take place in Saranac cemetery.
Mrs. Dawson was a native of Berlin and before her marriage was Miss Lucy Bishop. Her entire life has been spent in the vicinity of Saranac. She had no children of her own, but at the time of her marriage to Mr. Dawson she accepted the trust of caring for his three children and her devotion to them and to her husband who has been a semi-invalid for several years marks her life as one of a beautiful Christian character. The children of her step-children were frequent visitors at her home and there was no limit to the affection that she poured out to them.
Her husband and the three children, William Dawson, of Grand Rapids; Glenn Dawson, of Saranac, and Ralph Kernen, of Ionia, survive.

SARANAC - Mabel B. Dawson, 79, of 203 Division, Saranac, died Saturday at Belding Community hospital.
Born in Carson City, September 20, 1891, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Allen. July 12, 1919 she was married in Ionia to William F. Dawson, who died December 10, 1956.
She has been a resident of Saranac since 1939. A member of Order of Eastern Star she also belonged to Past Matrons association of OES, held office in the American Legion auxiliary and attended South Boston Bible church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Theisen of Saranac; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Oscar Allen of Flint.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. followed by Eastern Star services at Morris-Roetman funeral home in Saranac. Pastor Joe Everett will officiate and interment will be at Saranac cemetery.

SARANAC - William F. Dawson, 65 died in his car December 10 on Main street in Saranac.
Born March 22, 1891 in Saranac he was the son of Herman B. and Caroline Dawson and was a merchant in Saranac for a number of years, retiring in 1956. He was also a member of Boston Lodge No. 146 F&AM and was an active member of the American Legion in which he held several offices.
Surviving are his wife Mabel; a daughter, Dorothy Theisen; eight grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Lena Kernen of {unreadable}.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Morris funeral home with the Rev. Glenn McCarty officiating and interment will be in Saranac cemetery.
Bearers will be six nephews, Herbert Talcot, Jack Dawson, Philip Dawson, Fred Kernen, Robert Kernen and Kenneth Kernen.

Death of Willis J. Devault
Willis J. Devault was born in Utica, Mich., January 9, 1861, and passed to his eternal home Tuesday, May 13 at the age of 80 years, four months and four days.
He was united in marriage to Miss Lucinda Stevens at Chesaning in December, 1885. To this union were born 11 children. In early life he moved to Linwood and in 1899 he moved with his wife and family to Twining where he lived until the time of his death, his wife, Lucinda, and two children, Mrs. Leroy Hazel and Archie Devault, preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn their loss, Mrs. Myron Wiggens, Marion; Mrs. Henry Sower, Belding; Willis H. Devault, Twining; Mrs. Gus Hubbard, Trufant; Dan Devault, Rochester; Mrs. Frank Shores, Lowell, Chester Devault, Rochester; Mrs. Herbert Kadd, Rochester; Geo. Devault, Twining; 44 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, besides a host of relatives, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 16, at 1:30 o'clock from the Forshee funeral home, Twining, and at 2:00 p.m. from the Twining Methodist church with the Rev. C.F. Edgerton officiating. Interment was made in the Cedar Valley cemetery.

Hubbardston - Bruce C. Devereaux, 62, of Hubbardston died March 27. 1997. He was born March 24, 1934 in St. Johns, the son of R.G. and Bertha (Yeoman) Devereaux and lived in the Clinton County area most of his life. He was an electrician at Fisher Body and retired after 30 years. Bruce was a member of the American Legion Post #182 and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by one son, Bruce W. (Lynne) Devereaux of Bath; two daughters, Rosemarie (Rodney) Smith of North Star and Sue (Bernie) Schafer of Beal City; many grandchildren; two sisters, Janet Simmon of Lansing and Carol Gibbons of Fowler; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 31 at the Osgood Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Shrout officiating.

Headline: Frank Dibble Buried Today at River Ridge
Frank Dibble, 75, passed away at Belding City hospital Tuesday after a short illness. He was born on the farm southwest of this city in Otisco township, May 1, 1880, the son of Henry and Lerna Rich Dibble. The farm was later sold to Harold Mawby and it was here that Mr. Dibble and his parents developed the apple orchard which they managed so successfully and where he lived with his mother after his father’s death until they moved into the city to the residence at 424 Pearl Street eleven years ago. The farm was
originally purchased from the government by Mr. Dibble’s grandfather and had never changed hands until purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Mawby in April, 1944.
Besides cousins, his only surviving relative is one brother, Arza of Traverse City. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday at 2 o’clock at Fitzjohn funeral home with Rev. Lester B. Thomas of the Greenville Episcopal church officiating. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at River Ridge cemetery. Pall bears will be Harold Mawby, Eugene Smith, Clayton Campbell, Glenn Wortley, Hugh Bigley and George Skellenger.

Headline: Lerna C. Dibble Died Tuesday at Age of 91 Years
Lerna C. Dibble, 91, died Tuesday at Belding City Hospital. She fell a week ago in her home at 424 Pearl Street where she lived with her son Frank and she gradually failed until she passed away, but until her fall she had been around the house each day.
She was born in Otisco township, the daughter of Abijah and Hannah Rich and had always lived in this vicinity. She was married to Henry Dibble in 1879 and they went to the farm south of the city and lived there 64 years until they sold the farm to Harold Mawby seven years ago when Mrs. Dibble and her son moved to their present home on Pearl Street.
The Dibbles had always been fruit growers and were known for the fine quality of their apples in which Mrs. Dibble always took a keen interest. Mr. Dibble died 15 years ago. She was a former member of the Maccabees and the East Otisco Farmers Club.
Surviving are the two sons, Frank, at home, Arza of Traverse City. The funeral services today, Thursday, at the Fitzjohn Funeral Home, at 2 o’clock, will be private as she requested, but friends of the family will be welcomed. Rev. Lester Clough is the officiating minister and entombment will be in the mausoleum in River Ridge cemetery beside her husband. Chosen for pallbearers are George Farthing, Forest Schutts, Ernest Benton, George Wiley, Harold Mawby, and C. B. Johnston.

Amos W. Dildine was born in Sullivan Co., Pa., Dec. 20, 1846, and died in Clarksville May 1, 1914, aged 67 years, 4 months and 12 days. His mother died when he was 2 years old and she also left a daughter 4 years old. The children were separated and later the sister was brought to Michigan.
In 1862 he enlisted in the Civil War and remained till its close. Later he came to Michigan to visit his sister, Mrs. James Post. He was married to Miss Emma Hood Sept. 13, 1874. To this union were born three children, two daughters and one son, the latter died at the early age of four years. He is survived by the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Chas. Decker and Mrs. Andrew Clum, and three nephews, John, Lamar and James Post. His sister, Mrs. Post, died May 5, 1913.
The funeral was held Sunday, May 3, at the Congregational church and was largely attended. The teachers and pupils of the Clarksville school attended in a body. Rev. Wooley was the officiating minister. Burial was in Clarksville cemetery.

BELDING - Belma P. Dillenbeck, 71, of 507 S. Broas St., Belding, died Monday afternoon at Belding Community Hospital.
Mrs. Dillenbeck was born Feb. 10, 1912 at Ionia. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church.
Surviving are her husband Abner; four daughters, Judy Nummer, Joanne Holderman, Belding, Mrs. David (Shirley) Johnson, Grand Rapids, Mrs. James (Joyce) Cole, Texas; a son, Walter Dillenbeck, Belding; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Huffman Funeral Home, Belding, Fr. Charles R. Dautremont officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and relatives form 7 to 8:30 this evening and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Charles Frederick Dillenbeck, 70, a former Ionia resident, died at his home at 148 Lafayette N.E., Grand Rapids, Sunday, September 21, at 2:30 a.m.
He was employed for many years in the mechanical departments of the Ionia Sentinel, the Ionia Standard and the Crawford Dillenbeck Printing Co., a job printing plant, and at the time of his death was employed in the same department of the Grand Rapids Press.
He was married June 5, 1916, in Grand Rapids to Miss Genevieve {the last name and place are unreadable in the copy I have}.
Surviving are his wife; Jennie; a daughter, Mrs. John {unreadable}, Grand Rapids; two sons, The Rev. Fr. Frederick Dillenbeck, CSR, of New Orleans, La., and the Rev. Fr. Robert Dillenbeck, CSR, of Davenport, Ia.; a sister, Mrs. Mable Dake of Ionia; a brother, Lee Dillenbeck, of Ionia; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Florence Dillenbeck of Ionia; and an aunt, Mrs. Frank Wirtz, of Ionia.
The body is reposing at the Alt funeral home in Grand Rapids. The Holy Name society, St. Vincent's DePaul society and the Knights of Columbus and friends will recite rosary Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus' church. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery.

Walter E. Dillenbeck, 54, a life long resident of Ionia, died Thursday morning, June 16, at his home at 142 Mill street after an illness of several years. He became critically ill two months ago.
He was born April 15, 1884 in Ionia and attend SS. Peter and Paul academy and the Ionia high school. In 1903 he was married to Miss Florence Randall in Ionia by Fr. {unreadable in the copy I have}. He was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul church and had been employed at the Ypsilanti Reed furniture company as a weaver up until 1931.
Survivors are four daughters, Miss Mabel Dillenbeck and Mrs. Weston H. Guild of Ionia, Mrs. Leslie Hale of Pontiac and Mrs. James Chapin of Stanton; a son, Abner J. Dillenbeck of Ionia; a sister, Mrs. Wesley Dake of Easton township; two brothers, Charles Dillenbeck of Grand Rapids and Leo Dillenbeck of Ionia and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from SS. Peter and Paul church Saturday morning, June 18, at 9 o'clock with burial in the Mount Olivet cemetery.
DILLEY, Jessie

Mrs. William Dilley, 63, of Muir, died about 11:30 Thursday evening, April 6, at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since Tuesday. She was the widow of the late William Dilley of Ionia.
Jessie Sykes was born in Caledonia, February 25, 1881, and had been a resident of Ionia County since early childhood. In 1902 she was united in marriage with William Dilley of Ionia. Mr. Dilley died in August 1935, and their daughter, Doris, Mrs. Clifford Harwood, died in December of that year. Surviving Mrs. Dilley is a brother, Dr. R. S. Sykes, Ionia and Muir, and a grandson Jerry Harwood, Portland.
Dr. Paul L. Stewart officiated at the funeral service held Sunday afternoon from Muir Presbyterian church. Burial was at Muir.

Mrs. Aloyse Dixon, 52, of 221 Dye street, died Friday evening at Methodist hospital in Rochester, Minn where she had been a patient since June 29. She had been ill the past year and a half.
She was born September 5, 1913, in Ionia to James and Elizabeth Kenny. She married Charles E. Dixon September 3, 1949, and they have resided in Ionia until the present.
Mrs. Dixon was formerly employed at First Security Bank of Ionia and the Ionia County Road Commission. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church, Daughters of Isabella and Rosary society.
She is survived by her husband, Charles, one daughter, Kay, three sons, Robert, William and Richard, one sister, Catherine Kenny of Ionia, and three brothers, Hugh Kenny of Dearborn and Gerald and John Kenny of Ionia.
Requiem mass will be said for her Monday at 9 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
Rosary will be recited Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Stone Kauffman funeral home.

Dayton Douglass, of Muir, One of Best Known Residents
Dayton Douglass, aged 76 years, who has been in failing health for many months, died at his home in Muir, Saturday evening.
Born in New York and coming to Michigan when a lad of 22, he had spent over half a century in Muir, making him one of the real pioneers of Ionia county.
Mr. Douglass was a wagon maker by trade and for forty years followed that work. The Douglass mark on a wagon was assurance of quality. In connection with his factory he ran a livery and a blacksmith shop.
For the past twelve years Mrs. Susie Sherman and daughter Reta have cared for his home and for him during the months of illness.
He was a member of the Muir Church of Christ, and was active in its progress, serving the organization in many capacities. He was also a member of the Knights Templars and was a Shriner.
Surviving him is one granddaughter, Mrs. Bernice Douglass, of Detroit, and a brother, James, of Muir.
The funeral will be under Masonic auspices, from the Muir Church of Christ, Wednesday at 2 o’clock, fast time. The services will be conducted by Rev. George T. Johnson, pastor of the church, and Dr. Willard K. Spencer, of Ionia, the Knight Templar acting as an escort. The burial will be in the Muir cemetery.

James Douglas, 86, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Judson Banning Wednesday afternoon, August 17, at 1:30 o’clock following an illness of only a few days from a stroke of paralysis which he suffered at his home before being removed to the Banning home in Muir.
Mr. Douglas was born in 1852 at Richfield Springs, New York, the son of William and Eliza Monks Douglas. He came to Michigan in 1879, returning to New York in 1896. In 1913 he came back to Michigan and later purchased the building known as the late Chauncey Ruinsey office which he converted into the home in which he lived until recently. During these years he was a familiar figure to Muir residents, maintaining excellent health and an interest in public affairs until his death.
During the year of 1876 he was married to Roxie Flint who died in 1890. Two children were born to them, a son, who died in 1890 and a daughter, who died in 1891.
Survivors are a brother, Frank Douglas of New York; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Douglas, a niece and six nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Banning home Friday afternoon, August 19, at 2 o’clock. Interment will be in the Muir cemetery.

Roy W. Douglas, resident of Ionia for many years prior to 1945, died in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Hospital at 1:20 Tuesday morning, Jan. 13, of coronary thrombosis. Mr. Douglas became ill at his home there Friday night.
Roy W. Douglas was born at Smyrna, Otisco township, Dec. 6, 1896, the son of Newton C. and Jennie Douglas. He attended Belding high school and Ferris Institute, Big Rapids. After his graduation he enlisted in World War I and served until he was seriously wounded in action. His first position after his discharge from the service was as cashier of the Fenwick bank. He then came to Ionia as bookkeeper for the Chevrolet Garage, the position he held when he was elected Ionia County Register of Deeds in 1931, on the Republican ticket. He served as register in 1931 and 32 and again from 1935 through 1944. In 1945 he went to Mt. Pleasant as Veterans Counselor for Isabella county, a position he held at the time of his death.
On June 4, 1919, he was united in marriage with Miss Louise Miller of Ionia. Mrs. Douglas, with their four daughters and one son, survives him. They are Mrs. Marvin Nelson, Ionia; Mrs. Orin Miller of Ann Arbor; Miss Jan and Miss Mary Lou Douglas, Mt. Pleasant, and Wayne Douglas, student at Western Michigan College of Education, Kalamazoo. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Clyde Allchin and Mrs. Floyd Jenks, of Belding, and Mrs. Harry Moon of Fremont.
Mr. Douglas was a past commander of the Ionia post, American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, D. A. V., a past master of Ionia F. & A. M., No. 36, and Chapter, and of Queen Esther Chapter O. E. S. and Ionic White Shrine. Also of the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club.
Funeral service will be at one o’clock Thursday afternoon, Jan. 15, in Mt. Pleasant and burial in Balcom cemetery, Ionia. Rev. MacKenzie, of the Mt. Pleasant Methodist church, will officiate. Masonic graveside service will be at 3:00 o’clock.

Lyons – Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Douglass, 68, will be Monday at 2 pm at Shaw-Rivett – Hull funeral home in Muir. Burial will be in Muir cemetery.
Mrs. Douglass, who lived at 549 Liberty, Muir, died early Friday morning at Sparrow hospital in Lansing.
She was born May 20, 1900 at Harbor Sprints, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Babcock. A graduate of Harbor Springs high school and Michigan State college in East Lansing, she was a home economics teacher in several schools, including Lyons high school. She was retired in 1946.
In March, 1946 she was married to William Douglass of Muir and they owned and operated a cider mill there until it was sold two years ago.
She is survived by her husband William and nieces and nephews.

Muir – Scott Douglass, 83, died Tuesday evening at the Ionia Manor after a long illness.
He was born April 3, 1896 in Muir, the son of John and Margaret Douglass. He attended Muir schools and worked on many area farms for years.
Surviving Mr. Douglass are two nieces, Mrs. Treva Risdon and Mrs. Heloise Eisele; and two nephews, Sterling and Wendell Douglass, all of Fowlerville.
Graveside services will be at the Muir Cemetery Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. McDonald of the Muir Presbyterian Church officiating.
Arrangements are by the Hull Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Gertrude M. Dowsett, 85, of Lowell, formerly of Ionia, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998 at Heartland Health Care Center, Ionia.
She was born April 30, 1913 in Crystal, the daughter of Edgar Judson Nolty and Maude (Harnden) Nolty.
Mrs. Dowsett worked for A.O. Smith in Ionia, Fisher Body in Flint and retired from the Chrysler Trim Plant in Lyons after working 35 years.
She was a member of the Lyons Baptist Church and was an avid poodle and horse lover.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol (Howard) Ardis and Ruth (James) Christensen both of Ionia; 10 grandchildren, numerous Great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three daughters, one grandson, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Friday at the Cook Funeral Home, Ionia with the Rev. Kenneth Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating and the interment will be in Muir Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Rich Street Chapel of Cook Funeral Home, Ionia. Memorial Contributions may be made to the V.F.W. Sheridan Post #5065, envelopes at the Cook Funeral Home, Ionia.

THE IONIA SENTINEL, MICH.; THURSDAY, DEC. 16, 1886: "At Tower City, Dakota, Thursday, Carrie, wife of Charles Drown, died of typhoid pneumonia. Deceased was a daughter of George Kling, formerly of this city, and was well and favorably known to our citizens. She was about 20 years of age and was married only a year ago last July. She leaves her husband and a babe six or seven months old. The relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavment. The husband is a brother of Mrs. H. G. Wright of this city."

DUMON, FRANCES ORINDA Mrs. Frances Orinda DUMON, aged 91, passed away at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Fred DUMON in Smyrna at 3:30 Sunday morning. She had been in failing health about four months. She was born October 30, 1857 in Dayton, Wisconsin, the daughter of Reuben and Katherine BROWN and came to Smyrna vicinity at the age of nine. November 13, 1877, she was married to Charles DUMON and went to live on a farm north of Smyrna, which was her home until a few months ago. She had one son, Fred, who passed away in January, 1949. He was married 37 years ago and his wife, Edith had always lived in the DUMON home, she being like a daughter to the deceased. Six months ago, the two ladies moved to the village of Smyrna where the elderly lady was tenderly cared for until her death. Orinda DUMON was a charter member of the Smyrna Friendship club which was organized 59 years ago. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 at Fitzjohn's Funeral Home, Rev. Lester Clough officiating and burial was in Smyrna Cemetery. Pallbearers were Howard INSLEY, Karl GEIGER, Jr., Louis PETERSON, Clyde COTTER, Hubert REEVES and Earl NORTON.

January 16, 1928, front page: "THREE TAKEN BY DEATH IN IONIA TODAY - Mrs. Melvina Hearsey, Aged 88, Mrs. Nathan Sessions and George Dutton Pass Away Monday Morning. - .......George W. Dutton, aged 76 years, died at the home of his son James, of 404 Baldie street, Monday morning at 2 o'clock, where he was brought Sunday following a 2 year illness, the last week of which has been critical.
Born in Clinton county and reared there, Mr. Dutton came to the vicinity of Pewamo 36 years ago, and has lived there since.
Surviving him is the widow, and one son James, of Ionia.
The funeral services will be held from the home in Pewamo Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The burial will take place in Fair Plains cemetery."

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Duxbury, Ionia county’s oldest resident, who died at her home in Saranac Wednesday afternoon, aged 98 years, were held Friday. Mrs. Gertrude Locher Duxbury was born in Baton, Germany, March 4, 1828. At the age of 15 years she came with her parents to America, and they settled in Norwalk, Ohio. She had two brothers, Joseph and Dr. Henry Locher, and one sister, Ann Locher, all of whom have preceded her to the great beyond.
At the close of the Civil war, she was married to John Duxbury, and they came at once to Michigan, and bought a farm in Berlin township, on which they lived for about 40 years, until the tragic death of Mr. Duxbury. He was thrown from a load of produce when his team became frightened at a train and ran away. Mrs. Duxbury remained on the farm about a year, and then bought the home on Vosper street, where she has since lived. During the later years she has been faithfully cared for by Mrs. Jennie Brooks. Although confined to her bed for about a year with occasional weeks of serious illness, she was always cheerful and patient, and hopeful of the better life awaiting her. Her poor health prohibited her holding the usual “open house” to her neighbors and friends on her last birthday, March 4, 1926. She leaves one nephew, Charles Locher, of Saranac; many nieces, grand nieces, and great grand nieces and nephews. Rev. W. Halladay officiated, and burial was in the Saranac cemetery.

The funeral will be held Wednesday from the residence at 2 o'clock, and at 2:30 from the Baptist church, Rev. Trenerry officiating."

Nathan Brede Dygert, 18 of Ionia passed away March 26, 1997. Surviving are father Charles (Leymarie) Dygert; one sister: Ashley Dygert of Ionia; two brothers: Loren (Samantha) Dygert of Ionia and Jason Dygert of Ionia; paternal grandfather Lincoln (Dorothy) Dygert of Ionia; paternal grandmother, Bernice Dygert of Ionia; maternal grandmother Louise Samson of Kidneyville; several cousins, nieces and nephews, and his girlfriend Kandi Bell. Funeral services will be held March 31 with burial in Balcom Cemetery. Arrangements by Cook Funeral Home in Ionia.
