GAGE, Marvel
Ionia - funeral services for Marvel Gage were held Saturday at Muir First Christian Church, with the Rev. F. Michael Valentine officiating.
Pianist was Maxine Sprank and soloist was Thelma Walkington.
Pallbearers were Robert J. Hasemann Jr., Adam G. Morris, Gordon Johnston, Ronald Jones, Michael Loper, and Lloyd Loper Jr.
Burial was in Muir Cemetery.
A luncheon was served to family and friends at the church, following services.

Ionia - Cecil M. Gee, 85 of Ionia died March 23, 1997 at the Ionia County Memorial Hospital.
He was born the son of Frank and Gertrude (Pringle) Gee on Jan. 5, 1912 in Muskegon.
He was a life-time member of the Ionia Moose Lodge and the Ionia Elks. He formerly owned the Ionia Bottle Gas, selling his company in 1956. He became plant manager of Enron Corp., retiring in 1974.
He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Mellinger of Ionia and Donna (Bruce) Fuller of Olivet; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marjorie in 1985 and one brother, Robert Gee.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at the Myers Memorial Chapel, 148 E. Main St., Ionia with Rev. James Bennett from First Baptist Church in Ionia officiating. Interment will be in Balcom Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Myers Memorial Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Heart Association.
GIBBONS, Susanna

Susanna Johnson, daughter of William and Mary Johnson, was born in Alford, England, January 18th, 1840. In 1862 she came with friends of her family, to the United States, making her home in Muir, Ionia County, Michigan.
January 28th, 1867, she was married to William S. Gibbons. They made their home in the township of North Plains. In the year of 1872 Mr. and Mrs. Gibbons moved to Campbell township, where they lived until Mr. Gibbons' death in 1917.
To this union was born the following children: Mary Amy, Ruby F., Elizabeth E., Emma. Elizabeth departed this life in November of 1913.
After the death of her husband, Mrs. Gibbons lived with her daughters, Mrs. W. R. Seybold, of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. T. O. Frost of Clarksville, at whose home she passed away May 4th, 1928.
She is also survived by another daughter, Miss Emma Gibbons of Clarksville, three grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and many friends.
In past years she was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Clarksville and of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in which she was an active, earnest worker.
Mrs. Gibbons was a faithful, affectionate wife and mothers, a loyal self-sacrificing friend, a sincere Christian, being sustained and comforted by an unfaltering faith in Christ.
She will be held in loving remembrance by her relatives and friends.
"Sleep on, Beloved, sleep, and take thy rest; Lay down thy head upon thy Savior's Breast; We love the well, but Jesus love thee best -- Good Night!
Only "Good-night," beloved, not "Farewell!" A little while and we all shall dwell In hallowed union indivisible -- Good-night!"
Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. Thomas Frost of Clarksville, Sunday afternoon, at 2:30
Rev. Halliday and Rev. Williams officiated. Interment in the Clarksville cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Gibson, aged 88 years, passed away last evening at 8 o'clock at the home of her niece, Mrs. Victor Johnson, of Fairplain. Funeral services will be held Saturday, after which the remains will be taken to Petoskey for burial.

Martin Jr. Gibson, 75, of Belding passed away Saturday evening, March 30, 2002 at his home.
He was born on Feb. 8, 1927 in Carson City, the son of Martin V. and Nellie L. (Reinsmith) Gibson. Marty retired from Extruded Metals and Aluminum Corp. in 1989.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Marjorie (Scofield) Gibson; his children, Linda Gibson of Greenville, Glenna Scofield of Gowen, Cheryl Warner of Greenville, Mrs. Larry (Vicki) Anthony of Lansing, Mrs. Gordon (Karen) Sanborn of Riverdale, Kim Geister (Gregg Skaggs) of Sheridan, Martin (Dianna) Gibson of Stanton, Clarence (Sharon) Scofield of Lansing and Carl Holmgren of Lansing; 27 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Mrs. Alta Burke of Belding; and brother, Daniel of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen L. (Arnold) Gibson on March 28, 1978; his mother on Oct 27, 1993; daughter, Rose Ann Gibson on Sept. 19, 1998; and father-in-law, Levi Burke on Nov. 22, 1990.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Pastor Mark Van Kleeck of Orleans Bible Church officiating. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alvah N. Belding Library or the American Cancer Society.

GILLEO, Louis F.
Ionia County News, Thursday, 19 June 1941
Funeral services of Louis Forman Gilleo, aged 89 years, were held from the Shaw parlors Sunday afternoon. Donald Press of Grand Rapids officiated. Interment was in Muir cemetery. Mr. Gilleo was born February 5, 1852, in New York state. He moved to Muir in 1898. He was married to Jennie Sherman, who died in 1930.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William Harrison of Muir, and Mrs. William Hefty of St. Johns; and one brother, Newton, of Spokane, Washington, who is 92 years old.

Portland Twp. Loses Another Pioneer, Sunday John J. Ginnebaugh Passes Away Suddenly At Home Of Son, Near Collins
The funeral of John J. Ginnebaugh, who died at the home of his son, Charles, who lives near Collins, Sunday morning, was held at the residence Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Vincent C. Webb officiating. He became ill while seated at the breakfast table and was helped to a couch, where he soon passed away.
Mr. Ginnebaugh was born in Germany 85 years ago and came to this country when a small lad with his parents, settling near Ann Arbor, and then after a few years moved to Danby. He has lived in Portland township for several years and was a well-known and respected citizen of this county.
Surviving are the two sons and one daughter, Leonard and Charles, and Mrs. Barbara Sumners, who lives at Ann Arbor. Mr. Ginnebaugh's wife passed away about 15 years ago.

Adify L., wife of Reuben Gould, passed away this morning at 8:30 and in her death the community loses a good woman. She was a mother worthy the name. Her age was 50 years. The funeral will be attended from the late home on State road, at 2 o’clock p.m. on Friday, and interment will be Highland Park. The service will be in charge of Rev. D. L. Martin of the Baptist church.

Mrs. Nelson Powell, Past 10 Years Saturday Morning
Mrs. Emma Gould died Friday morning at 4:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Nelson Powell, 221 Rich street. Mrs. Gould was the widow of Walter D. Gould, who died 23 years ago last May. She suffered a stroke of paralysis over five years ago and had been in gradually failing health ever since. She is survived by one son, Zene C. Gould, of Jackson, with whom she had made her home for the past 10 years.
Funeral services will be held from the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Eastern Standard time. Rev. W. F. Kengrick will officiate.
Those wishing to view the remains may do so at the home of Mrs. Powell Saturday afternoon and evening.

Mrs. Glenn Gould, 79, of North State road, died Monday morning at Ionia County Memorial hospital.
She as born August 14, 1887 and was married to Glenn Gould, July 11, 1914 in Ionia.
Last Tuesday was their 53rd wedding anniversary.
Surviving are her husband Glenn and one niece.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Johns Episcopal church. She will be at Stone-Kauffman funeral home until Wednesday morning.

Headline: Oldest Man in County Dead at 100
Within just eight days of being 101 years of age, Franklin J. Gould, 100, of Orleans, died Friday after more than two years of illness.
He was believed to have been the oldest man in Ionia County. A resident of Orleans for the past 45 years, Gould had been a farmer all his life. He had been confined to his bed for the past two years.
Before coming to Ionia county 45 years ago Mr. Gould had lived in Montcalm and Kent counties.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. P. S. Griswold of Orleans, a son, John of Orleans, two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Fales-Huffman funeral home at Belding. Burial will be at Orleans cemetery. Elder Jewell Bolejack of Ionia will officiate.
Bearers will be Ray Christensen, Robert Pierson, Walter Reeves and Harold Robinson.

GOULD, George A.

George A. Gould, 84, of route 3, Greenville, Morgan’s Mills, suffered a heart attack and died at his home early Monday evening.
He was born in Easton township, November 13, 1883, the son of Frederic A. and Dora Currier Gould. He made his home on the family farm until a young man when he left to become a barber.
Working for several barbers around the area he later owned and operated his own shop in Ionia. After semi-retirement he moved to Morgan’s Mills at which time he barbered in Smyrna and also at the cottage where he lived.
October 23, 1911 he was married in Ionia to Gertrude Higgins who preceded him in death August 9, 1966.
Surviving besides his daughter, Mrs. Ray Jameson of Ionia, are a brother, Glenn of North State road, and a sister, Mrs. Elta Snell; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 pm at Boynton funeral home with Rev Theodore Forbes of First Christian church officiating. Interment will be in Easton cemetery.
Family will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm.

A message was received Friday by Mrs. Nelson Powell telling of the sudden death in Detroit of her uncle, G. W. Gould. Mr. Gould was born in Ionia, but when a young man went to Detroit, where he lived since. He is survived by his wife. The funeral party will drive from Detroit Sunday morning and Rev. C. J. Kruse will conduct a short service at the grave, probably about 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the family lot at Highland Park, where his infant son was buried about 16 years ago.

Mrs. Gertrude A. Gould, 75, died Tuesday evening at United Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Mrs. Gould was a resident of Greenville the past 30 years, previously living in Muir.
She was born in Keene township, September 10, 1890. She was the daughter of Norman Higgins.
Surviving are her husband, George, one daughter, Mrs. Raymond Jameson, one brother, Glenn Higgins of Saranac, and two grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Stone-Kauffman funeral home with burial in Easton cemetery. Rev James Kendall will officiate.

Glenn Monroe Gould, 81, of Bell Haven apartments, Belding, passed away Thursday afternoon at Ionia County Memorial hospital where he has been a patient the past two weeks.
Born in Easton township November 5, 1888 he was the son of Frederic and Dora Currier Gould,. July 11, 1914 he married Florence Marie Cutler in Ionia. She preceded him in death in 1967.
He was a lifelong Ionia area resident and was engaged in farming during the greater part of his life. He worked for a short time at Ionia Manufacturing Co. during World War II. Prior to selling in 1968 and moving to Belding he owned and operated a truck garden on North State road.
Mr. Gould’s only survivors are nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 2 pm at the Boynton-Leddick funeral home. Rev. Theodore Forbes of First Christian church will officiate and interment will be at Easton cemetery.
Relatives will be at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 pm to receive friends.

John Gould, 85, of route one, Orleans, died Wednesday at Belding Community hospital following an extended illness.
He was born in Michigan, October 1, 1882 and was a machinist by trade at E. W. Bliss company, Hastings. April 3, 1935 he was married to the former Mina Buck who survives.
Besides his wife he leaves a stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert Coller of Havertown, Pa.; two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mable Griswold, Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. Hazel Edger of Arlington, Calif.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday at 4 m at Huffman funeral home with Pastor E. C. Larsen officiating. Burial will be in Orleans cemetery.

Mabel B. Gould, of Liberty street, Saranac, died Sunday in Ionia County Memorial hospital at 93 years of age.
Born in Boston township, August 19, 1878 she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Gould, and lived in Saranac all of her adult life where she attended schools and worked as a housekeeper for many of the area homeowners.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1:30 pm October 20 at Morris-Roetman funeral home in Saranac with Rev. John Hancock of Saranac community church officiating.
Burial will be in South Boston cemetery.

Percy T. Gould, 87, died Aug. 30 at the Blodgett Hospital, in Grand Rapids. He was born in Dryden, April 8, 1875.
Mr. Gould came to Belding in 1941 from Detroit where he had been employed with Campbell-Ewald Advertising Agency and later formed his own advertising company.
In Belding he was Justice of the Peace for several years and also was employed by Grand Trunk Railroad. He was a member of the First Congregational Church.
Surviving are his wife Hariett, and one daughter, Jayne Haller of Livonia.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Huffman Funeral home with burial in River Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Thomas Rebentisch officiated.

GRANGER, Lucinda Elizabeth (HEAVEN)

Lucinda Elizabeth Heaven was born in Albany, N.Y., Dec. 5th, 1850, and passed away into the Life beyond, March 3rd, 1927, being at the time of her decease, 76 years, 2 months and 25 days of age.
When a young lady she moved with her parents from the place of her birth in New York, to Michigan, where she taught in the public schools. She was married to Daniel Granger, a Civil War veteran, April 19th, 1867. To this union five children were born, three of whom have preceded their mother in death, Cora, who died in infancy, and one son and one daughter who died after reaching maturity. Two daughters remain to mourn the departure of their mother, Mrs. Leslie Case, Bloomfield, and Mrs. Genevieve Lamb, who is teaching school in Santee, Nebr.
{copy missing} ily moved from Michigan to Harlan Co., Nebraska in 1879 where they endured the hardships of pioneer life. For three years they withstood the hot winds and suffered the loss of 3 crops. Having been inspired by the green fields of Knox County they moved to this vicinity and for a good many years lived on a farm near Morrillville. Mrs. Granger was superintendent of the Morrillville Methodist Episcopal Sunday School for quite awhile, when Morrillville belonged to what was then known as the Bloomfield Circuit.
She was a staunch, loving and loyal Christian practically all of her life. She joined the Methodist Episcopal church when she was only thirteen years of age, and never failed to honor her church and her Lord. She constantly supported the church and loved the missionary cause, being a member of the Woman's Home Missionary Society of the Bloomfield Methodist Episcopal church. She loved her Master and the sound of His voice and was always listening to hear what He might say that she might obey. On Wednesday last, the angel of death came and said to her, "The Master of Life is come, and calleth for thee". Following Him as always she said, "My Lord and my God', and has gone to dwell with Him in "a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens". "For her to live was Christ, and to die was gain."
She was a good Christian woman and most faithfully followed her Lord. She believed in Him, and trusted Him, when He said, "I go to prepare a place for you, that where I am there ye may be also".
For some time Mrs. Granger had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Leslie Case, and passed away at her home.
Besides the two daughters mentioned above, Mrs. Granger leaves two aged brothers, A. A. Heaven and Henry Heaven, who make their home in Clarksville, Michigan.
Funeral services were held at the home, March 5th, Saturday afternoon, being conducted by J. Arthur Miller, of the Bloomfield Methodist Episcopal church.
Interment was made in the Bloomfield cemetery
The Monitor together with the many friends extend condolence and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives, but the can feel assured that Mrs. Granger will be rewarded for her honest Christian life lead upon this earth in the life to come. Peace to her ashes.

Her precious words, of hope, and cheer, And her tender love and care, Have left a sacred memory here, While she waits us over there. GREEN, Etta M.

Death came suddenly to Mrs. Etta M. Green, aged 82 years, and wife of Floyd L. Green, at the family home at 415 Beulah street, shortly before noon Wednesday. Mrs. Green had been in poor health for a long time and at about 11:30 was seized with apoplexy and died in her chair before a physician, who was called, could reach her.
Mrs. Green was born at Ft. Wayne, Ind., July 15, 1862, and came to this state when she was eight years of age. Her first husband was a Mr. Phillips and to this union were born three sons, Charles of Howard City, Jesse of Petoskey and Frank of Grand Rapids; also a daughter, Mrs. Cora Evey, of Sumner, all surviving, together with 15 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Eight of the grand and great grandchildren are serving in the armed forces.
Thirty-five years ago she was united in marriage to Floyd L. Green and they have resided in this city ever since. Mr. Green, who has given his wife every attention during her illness, also survives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Fales funeral home with Rev. H. S. Ellis officiating, and burial will be in the cemetery at Sand Lake.

GREENHOE, Mrs. Winifred
Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Tuesday, 18 April 1961
Lyons – funeral service for Mrs. Winifred Greenhoe, 81, will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon at Shaw-Rivett funeral home in Muir. She died early Monday morning in St. Joseph hospital, Flint, where she was a patient three days with a broken hip.
She was born in Ionia township, March 3, 1880 and except for the past year had always lived in Ionia county. Since then she had stayed with her son, Stanley at Davison.
She was married to Herbert Greenhoe February 25, 1903. He died January 31, 1950.
Mrs. Greenhoe is survived by one son, Stanley Greenhoe of Davison, and three grandchildren.
Rev. Homer Bailey of North Plains church will officiate and burial will be at North Plains cemetery.

GREY, Elizabeth

Mrs. Elizabeth Grey, 63 years of age passed away at her home on North Webster Street at noon yesterday after a short illness of pneumonia. Mrs. Grey has been a resident here fourteen years.
Mr. & Mrs. Grey moved here from Harlan and purchased the Phillips home north of this city. Mr. Grey died three months later and Mrs. Grey lived with her two sons, Fred of Lansing and Charles of Grand Rapids.
Mrs. Grey was born at Osgood, Ind. July 2, 1863. She was assistant conductress of the local W. R. C. and a member of Ray I. Booth Post American Legion auxiliary, as well as an active member of the Christian Science church.
She is survived by five brothers, Charles F. and A.E. Murray, of Osgood, Ind., Monty Murray, of Muncie, Ind., Everett Murray, of Grand Rapids; Louis Murray, of Rochester, Ind., and two sisters Mrs. Minnie Davids, of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Charles Switzer, of Franklin, Ind., as well as her two sons and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at the home at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning, Rev. G. D. Yinger officiating. The body will be taken to Rochester, Ind., for burial.

She was born in Ionia March 13, 1917, the daughter of Walter and Florence Randall Dillenbeck.
She attended SS Peter and Paul Academy, and married Weston H. Guild in 1933 in LaGrange, Ind. They spent their entire married lives in Ionia. He preceded her in death in Dec. 17, 1964. A son, Weston L. (Mike) Guild of Arizona also preceded her in death in 1973.
She was a member of SS Peter and Paul Church and a member of the Women of the Moose.
Survivors include one son, Jack; one brother, Abner Dillenbeck, of Belding; two sisters Ethel Chapin, Muskegon and Mrs. Glen (Mary) Leece, Clarksville; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mass will be read at 11 a.m. today at SS Peter and Paul Church with Rev. Henry Dondzila officiating.
Rosary was said at 8 p.m. Friday at the Leddick Funeral Home, and burial will be in the Balcom Cemetery.
The family received friends and relatives at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions can be made to the Moose Heart Fund.

Weston H. Guild, 52, of 841 West Main street died Thursday evening following a long illness.
He was born October 14, 1912 in Muir, the son of William and Leah Anderson Guild, and had lived in Ionia since childhood.
April 6, 1933 he was married at LaGrange, Ind., to Virginia Dillenbeck.
He was a former employee of Mitchell Bentley corporation and for 17 years was a member of Ionia National Guard.
He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul church.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia; two sons, Weston L. of Wittmann, Arix., and Jack Guild of Ionia; five grandchildren and a half-brother, Leo Sweet of Ionia.
Rosary will be recited Sunday at 3 p.m. at Myers funeral home and funeral mass will be sung at SS. Peter and Paul church Monday at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Balcom cemetery.

Weston L. Guild, 39, or Phoenix, Ariz., former Ionia resident known as Mike Guild, died Wednesday.
He was born September 6, 1934, in Ionia the son of Weston H. and Virginia Guild.
Surviving besides the wife, the former Bertha Price, are four sons, Tim, Pat, Chris and John and daughter, Debbie, all at home; mother, Mrs. Virginia Guild and brother, Jack Guild, both of Ionia.
Funeral services will be Monday at Paradise chapel, Phoenix, Ariz. Fr. Leyba will officiate and interment will be at Greenwood cemetery, Phoenix.

THE IONIA SENTINEL, MICH.; Thursday, Dec. 9, 1886: "CITY AND COUNTRY. - Orrin Gunnison, an old settler of Boston township, died Nov. 26. He settled on the farm where he died in 1848."
