Parrish, Fla. - Helen M. Hankis Nelson, 73, Greenville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 30, 1997, at Manatee Community Hospital, Bradenton, Fla.
Memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Parrish, Fla., with Pastor Duane Albers officiating. Memorial services will be held in Greenville at a later date.
She was born July 18, 1923, to Morris and Elizabeth Powell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond F. Hankis, on Jan. 29, 1986.

NEVE, Rollo E.

Rollo E. Neve, 84, of Belding, passed away Tues., April 9, 2002, at his home.
He was born January 25, 1918 in Pierson, the son of Frank and Edna Johnson Neve.
He graduated from Belding High School with the class of 1936.
Rollo was a Boy Scout Leader, a deacon at the First Church of Christ, held a pilot’s license, and worked at Extruded Metals and later was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting, camping and he and his wife, Betty, served as hosts at a state park for two years.
Rollo was married on August 17, 1946 in Belding to Betty Kiste and she survives, along with their children, Carole and Roger Vos, of Grand Rapids, Garralyn and Marvin Worthy of Gowen, Jacqualyn and Donald Foss of Grand Rapids, Robert and Beth Neve of Orleans, Steve and Sally Neve, Edward and Laurinda Neve, David and Gail Neve, all of Belding, and Jeff and Penny Neve, of Holland.
He is also survived by 36 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law, Gerald F. and Nancy Neve of Grand Rapids and close family friend, Julie Smith.
Rollo was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rosealie.
Funeral services for Rollo will be 2 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, with Rev. Jack Dunn officiating.
Interment will be in River Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation is 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alvah N. Belding Library or the New Hope Church of God.

Saranac - Phyllis M. Newell, 76, of Saranac, died at her residence June 13, 1997.
She was born Oct. 29, 1920 in Wexford County, the daughter of Hugh and Grace (Hart) Dulyea. She was a member of South Boston Bible Church and married Leo Newell in Grand Rapids on Oct. 7, 1939.
She is survived by her husband, Leo; one son, Gary (Darlene) Newell of Hasting; three daughters, Suzanne (Richard) Grieves of Saranac, Nancy Wilson of Saranac and Mary (Patrick) Collier of Saranac; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the South Boston Bible Church with Rev. Ronald Tuinstra officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Grand Rapids. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 pm. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac.
Memorial contributions may be made to the South Boston Bible Church.

Valerie Newman, 48, of Ionia went to be with her Father on April 7, 2002, in Lansing.
She was born May 10, 1953 in Belding, the daughter of John and Annette Bush. She went on to marry Ernie Newman Feb. 2, 1973. Valerie was a member of Shiloh Community Church and a member of the church board. She was very active in teen programs.
Valerie is survived by her loving, dedicated spouse and best friend, Ernie Newman of Ionia; sons, Marc (Roxanne) Newman of Grand Rapids and Wes (Myra) Newman of Grand Rapids; daughter, Christy (David) Wiggs of Tennessee; brothers, John Bush of Ionia, Larry (Debbie) Bush of Belding; Ted (Therese) Bush of Trufant, Marty (Sheryl) Bush of Belding; and Tom (Alice) Bush of Lowell; sisters, Linda (Dave) Wheeler of Virginia, Lois (Jerry) Paulson of Belding, Karen (Art) Rittenburg of Pentwater, Barb (Tom) Fagerlin of Belding, Marilyn (Denny )Fontaine of Stanton, Donna (Greg) Ostrand of Houghton Hancock, Nancy (Jim) Schrauben of Portland and Janice (Clay) Parker, of Belmont.
Funeral services for Valerie Newman will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday at Shiloh Community Church with Rev. Kendall Harger officiating.
Interment will be in Balcom Cemetery. Visitation is 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Visitation was also held on Monday.
Anyone wishing may make a memorial contribution to Shiloh Community Church - Teens. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MI, October 18, 1933: "Mortuary - Mrs. Peter Nolan - Mrs. Peter Nolan, 70, a resident of Hubbardston vicinity, died Tuesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Mooney, 326 North Dexter street, following several years of poor health and two weeks of complications that had been critical. The funeral service will be conducted Friday morning, at 10 o'clock in the St. Johns Catholic church in Hubbardston. The burial will be in the Hubbardston cemetery.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Egan and born on the farm where she had lived her complete lifetime until coming to the home of her daughter less than two weeks ago.
Besides the daughter and her husband she leaves a sister, Mrs. Jerry Grace of Carson City and six grandchildren. She had been married 3(6?) years."

IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MI, August 24, 1968: "DEATHS - MRS IDA MAY NOLAN - CLARKSVILLE - Mrs Ida May Nolan, 48, of 165 Main, Clarksville, died Friday at Butterworth hospital in Grand Rapids following an extended illness.
She was born June 18, 1920 in Cadillac, the daughter of Preston and Pansy Wilson McIntyre. She was married to John Nolan in Detroit. She had lived in Grand Rapids until six years ago when she came to Clarksville and was employed at Lake Odessa Machine Products until her retirement due to ill health.
Besides her husband, John, she leaves three daughters, Mrs Perry White, Mrs Darrel Sturdavant and Sandra Nolan and one son John Jr. all of Clarksville; mother Mrs Pansy Denman of Cadillac; five sisters, Mrs. Glenn Nols, Mrs Jerry Hawkins both of Cadillac, Mrs. Emil Horina of Baldwin, Mrs Gene Ellenbos of Traverse City, Mrs Dale Edgecomb of McBain; three brothers, Charles Denman of Cadillac, Daniel McIntyre of Pennsylvania and Harold McIntyre of Lake Orion.
Mrs Nolan will be at Pickens funeral chapel in Clarksville until Tuesday morning. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 pm at the Slagle cemetery at Harrietta with the Rev Donald Mathis of Clarksville officiating."

IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MI, October 22, 1962: "Deaths - MRS CHARLOTTE M. NOLAN, 71, of 517 West Washington street, died at 12:05 a.m. Sunday at Ionia County Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient the past four days.
She was a resident of Ionia 63 years and for 10 years operated the Ionia Cafeteria with her late husband, John, in the Elks temple building. For several years she was also housekeeper for Rev. Ralph Kelley at Carson City.
She was born in Otisco township, June 29, 1891, the daughter of Joseph and Frances Laux.
Membership activity included Rosary Society and Daughters of Isabella and she also belonged to Women of the Moose.
She was preceded in death by her husband four years ago, and two sons, Donald in 1937, and Clayton in 1961.
Surviving are a brother, Cletus Laux of Grosse Point; three grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs Clayton Nolan of Ionia.
Rosary will be recited Monday night at 8 o'clock at Boyton funeral home and funeral mass will be Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock at SS. Peter and Paul church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery."

IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MI, October 19, 1937: "Deaths - DONALD J. NOLAN - Word was received in Ionia Tuesday of the death of Donald J. Nolan, 24, son of Mrs. Charlotte Nolan, West Washington street. Death occurred in the American Legion hospital in Battle Creek late Monday afternoon. He had been confined there for the past two years suffering from tuberculosis.
He was born in Ionia, March 18, 1913, and was a resident here until September 27, 1934, when he entered an Ann Arbor hospital for the treatment of tuberculosis. In the following April he was transferred to the Battle Creek hospital where he was a patient until his death.
He attended the SS. Peter and Paul academy here and was graduated with the class of 1930. During his high school days he was active in various sports, playing on the basketball teams in 1928 and 1929.
After his graduation from high schools he attended Michigan State college for one year.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Charlotte Nolan, and a brother, Clayton of Ionia, and his father, John Nolan, of Chicago.
Rosary will be recited at the Myers funeral home on East Main street Wednesday evening at 7:30.
Funeral services will be held from SS. Peter and Paul church Thursday morning at 9 o'clock. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet cemetery."

IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MI; September 16, 1921, front page: "HUBBARDSTON BOY PROVES VICTIM OF KICK OF HORSE - Lawrence Nolen, Son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Nolen, Died Thursday - Special to the Sentinel-Standard - Hubbardston, September 16 - Lawrence Nolen, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Nolen, living three miles west of Hubbardston, died at his home Thursday afternoon. Death was due to injuries received two days before from a horse. __________ (unable to read text).
The young man attended St. Johns academy at Hubbardston and would have graduated with the class of 1922. He leaves besides his parents, a sister, Miss anna Nolen, employed at Carten's store in Ionia.
The funeral will be held at St. John's Catholic church, Saturday morning. Burial will be in the cemtery here."
NOLTY, Marcy Elizabeth (DELONG) (ANDERSON)

Lyons, Michigan, Jan. 15, 1920
March Elizabeth DeLong was born in German Flats, Herkimer County, New York, October 21, 1828, and came to Michigan overland with her father and mother James and Clarissa (nee Brown) DeLong, in 1840 and settled in Ionia County, where she lived the rest of her life. On January 26, 1848, she was married to Alexander Anderson, and of this union four children were born, James D., of Muir; Archie of Ionia; Ione Faulkner of Muir and Mrs. C.O. Miller of Lyons. After the death of Mr. Anderson in April, 1861, she was married to William P. Nolty in November, 1862, who died July 20, 1904, and to this union one child was born, Edgar J., of Lyons. She died January 10, 1920, at 11:30 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.O. Miller, in Lyons, having passed her 91st birthday last October. She also left to mourn her loss, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She was a charter member of the Church of Christ at Ionia, which was organized in 1859, and was a faithful follower of Christ the rest of her life.
Funeral services were held from the Muir Church of Christ Tuesday afternoon and interment in the Muir cemetery.

Grand Ledge Age 102, went to be with the Lord March 21, 2001. Mabel attended Coleman School, Ionia County; graduated from Peter and Paul Academy and also Ionia County Normal School Teaching Class where she graduated with high honors, and taught at the Benedict School in Ionia. She was a member of: Watson Well Wishers for 47 years, Eaton County Extension for over 50 years, American Legion Auxilliary, Charlotte and the St. Michaael Catholic Church, Grand Ledge. Survivors include her 4 daughters, Dorothy Bennett of Lansing, Betty Jean (Henry) Kempf of Sunfield, Helen (Walter) Green, and Grace Richards, both of Sheridan; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law Rosemary Nye of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Harvey D. Nye, beloved granddaughter Judy Green, son, Harvey Nye, Jr., brother Alfred Hosey, sister-in-law, Doris Hosey, 2 son-in-laws, Warren Bennett and Eli Richards. Funeral mass was held Saturday, March 24, 11 a.m.. at the St. Michael Catholic Church, Grand Ledge, with Fr. Robert McGraw as celebrant; interment followed at the Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge. The family was served by the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge.
