YOST, Sandra G. (PETERS)

Sandra G. Yost, 51, of Ionia passed away April 23, 2002 at her home.

She was born Feb. 22, 1951 in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of William and Irene (Herschberger) Peters. She would go onto marry Robert Yost Jan. 8, 1972 in Baltimore, Md. She was a para-pro at Freedom Acres where she worked with the physically and mentally impaired.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Robert Yost of Ionia; her daughters, Tanya Yost of Ionia and Tiffany Yost of Ionia; stepsons, Leslie (Cindy) Guelde of Ohio and James Guelde of Ohio; stepdaughter, Michelle (Chris) Reinhart of Ohio; sisters, Carole Jarvis, Ranae (Randy) Hill, Debbie (Danny) White all of Maryland; one grandson, Keegan Dalman; step-grandchildren, Nicholas Guelde, Justin Guelde, Tyler Guelde, Ashley Guelde, Sean Guelde, Andrea Guelde and Michael Reinhart; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Chad; and one brother, Billy.

Funeral services for Sandra will be held at 10:30 p.m., Saturday at the Shiloh Community Church with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Visitation is 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday at the Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.

Anyone wishing may make memorial contributions to Freedom Acres School.

Young, Esther (Ward) (Mrs.)

THE IONIA SENTINEL, MICH.; February 9, 1888. Two items: 1) "CITY AND COUNTRY. - Mrs. Esther Young, mother of John and Sylvester Young, and familiarly known to most Ionians as "Grandma Young", died Wednesday evening at 5 o'clock, aged 84 years. 2) Mrs. Esther Young, whose funeral took place Friday, was born in Oneonta, Otsego county, N.Y., May 11, 1804. Her maiden name was Esther Ward. She was married to Jacob J. Young in July, 1824, and in the year 1836 was baptized and joined the M.E. church, of which she has been a faithful member ever since. She came to Ionia in Dec., 1871, and has since then made her with her sons, John and Sylvester Young.


HOWARD ZIMMERMAN

DAILY SENTINEL-STANDARD, IONIA, MICH., Thursday, December 3, 1942: "Deaths - Howard Zimmerman, 78, died Wednesday evening at 9:45 o'clock at his home at 177 Adams street, after a serious illness of six weeks. He had been in poor health for the past 18 years. He had been a reisent of Ionia for 33 years. He had been employed by the old Ionia Wagon Works and was a former member of the IOOF lodge.

Surviving him are the widow, Louise; five children, Mrs. Vern Smith, Mrs. Lawrence Witzel of Ionia, Earl Zimmerman of Carson City, Mrs. Mary Hale of Lansing and Howard Zimmerman, Jr., of Lansing; 26 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, Austin Zimmerman of Beaverton, Indiana, and Robert Zimmerman, of Lakeview; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Sweet of Riverside, California and Mrs. Alice Clark of Clinton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Boynton funeral home. Rev. F. G. Dunbar of the First Methodist church will officiate and burial will be in Vinewood cemetery, Edmore."

DAILY SENTINEL-STANDARD, IONIA, MICH., Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1942: "Deaths - Funeral services for Howard Zimmerman, 78, of 177 Adams street, were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Boynton funeral home. Rev. F. G. Dunbar of the First Methodist church officiated and burial was in Vinewood cemetery, Edmore.

Pallbearers were Robert Zimmerman, Harold Olson, Dale Beardslee, ____ Hansen, Lawrence Hansen and Hershel Lake. Those who attended the services from away were Mr and Mrs Dwight Hale, Ronald and Vanda, Howard Zimmerman and Miss Betty Hansen of Lansing; Mr and Mrs Earl Zimmerman, Grace Ann and Robert and Austin Zimmerman of Carson City; Henry Hansen, Lawrence Hansen and Sherman Hansen of Stanton; Mrs. and Mrs. Harold Olson of Grand Rapids; Mr and Mrs Alvin Hansen, Mr and Mrs Dale Beardsleee of Greenville; Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Curtiss, Mr and Mrs Lennie Raymond and Mr. and Mrs White Curtiss of Winn." Louisa (Hey) Zimmerman

IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MICHIGAN, WED., JANUARY 26, 1949: "Deaths - MRS LOUISA ZIMMERMAN, 79, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Lawrence Witzel, Adams street, Tuesday evening at 9:20 p.m., after being ill since August.

She was born in Jackson county September 2, 1869, the daughter of Charles and Mary Hey. She has been a resident of Ionia county for over thirty years. She married Howard Zimmerman in 1887 in Stanton. He preceded her in death in December, 1942.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs Vern Smith and Mrs Lawrence Witzel, of Ionia and Mrs DeWitt Hale of Lansing; two sons, Earl of Hubbardston and Howard of Lansing; 28 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alfred Hey of Six Lakes.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from Boynton's funeral home. Dr. Howard Smith will officiate. Interment will be at Edmore cemetery." (Posted June 21, 1999, to Ionia County GenWebSite, MI, obituary forum.)

IONIA COUNTY NEWS, Thursday, Jan. 27, 1949, page 5: "MRS. LOUISA ZIMMERMAN died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Witzel, Adams St., Tuesday evening, Jan. 25.

Mrs. Zimmerman was born in Jackson County, Sept. 2, 1869 and was married to Howard Zimmerman in 1887 in Stanton. Mr. Zimmerman died in December, 1942.

IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, SATURDAY, JANUARY 29, 1949, page 5: "Deaths - Louisa Zimmerman - Funeral services for Louisa Zimmerman, who died Tuesday evening at the home of her son-in-law, Lawrence Witzel, were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Boynton's funeral home. Interment was in Edmore cemetery. Dr. Howard Smith officiated.

Bearers were LeRoy Hansen, Sherman Hansen, Ronald Hale, Robert Zimmerman, Wayne Smith, Alvin Hansen, Lawrence Hansen and Robert Hansen.
