Brooks Family

My great great great  grandfathers, John W. Smith and Willard Lyman Brooks were among the original settlers of Danby Township.  They both have numerous descendants in the area.

Willard Lyman Brooks (1808 to 1883) and his two brothers Isaac and Charles, came from Connecticut and settled in Danby in the 1830s.  Willard's homestead was located on what is now Charlotte Highway, just south of Portland.  His first wife was Lucina Sanford (1809-1844) we have no photos of her.  They had  four children.  Willard then married Nancy Reed (1823-1907).  They also had four children.  Much has been written in Ionia County histories about Willard Brooks and his contributions to the area.

Willard and Nancy's daughter, Mary Lucina, married T. William Smith, whose father John W. Smith homesteaded land on Towner Road in Danby Township.  The farm is still in the Smith Family.
